The after-hours Tunnel Walks cover 1.2km deep underground and pass the abandoned Mail Rail platforms. Tickets cost £58.
The Postal Museum has released its October dates for the after-hours Tunnel Walks. Two of the tours are on Halloween, Saturday 31 October, and each place costs £58.
The walks run outside the museum’s normal opening hours. Groups go down into London’s disused Mail Rail network.
The 1.2km walk takes groups deep below ground. Walkers cross the tracks and head into the tunnels before reaching platforms that are normally closed to museum visitors.
Part of the route passes the abandoned Mail Rail platforms. The network was mothballed in 2003, and the platforms have been left untouched ever since, so the working day seems to have simply stopped there.
Walkers can also look into the so-called “train graveyard”. It holds locomotives taken out of service during the network’s 100-year history.
The two Halloween sessions fall on the night of 31 October itself. Anyone hoping to spend that evening in the tunnels will need to book one of them.
Every walker is given a hard hat and a high-vis jacket. According to the museum’s safety information, the 1.2km route is on uneven ground and the lighting is low.
The Postal Museum is about 15 minutes on foot from Farringdon or King’s Cross station. Tickets for the October walks, including the Halloween sessions, are sold through the museum’s website at £58 per person.
