Mini Genius Lab runs 45 to 60 minute sessions for children aged 5 to 10 at Gamepath Monopoly Basement from 16 October.
Mini Genius Lab, a hands-on science workshop for children aged 5 to 10, returns to London on 16 October. It runs at Gamepath Monopoly Basement on Tottenham Court Road, with the first listed session at 5pm and more dates on sale.
Sessions last 45 to 60 minutes and are built around a few signature experiments. A performer in the role of a mad scientist leads each group through experiments based on real chemical reactions, and adults supervise on site. Organisers say the sessions are designed with safety in mind. The lab had a run in London last year.
The workshop is split into several experiments. At the slime station, each child makes a batch to their own design and takes it home in a sealed container. In the dry ice section, children trap frozen carbon dioxide inside vapour bubbles that burst into a puff of fog. Organisers describe the format as controlled chaos built on genuine reactions.
The Bubble Lab looks at surface tension using oversized wands and tall columns of foam. Organisers pitch the sessions at parents who want screen-free after-school activities, and the lab can also be booked for birthday parties. They present it as an educational way to mark big occasions, with the mess kept in the lab rather than at home.
Tottenham Court Road station is about two minutes’ walk from the venue entrance. It is served by the Central, Northern and Elizabeth lines. Session dates and booking details are on the Mini Genius Lab website.
