First ever staging of the play in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse
A cast of four, with Kate Duchêne doubling Caesar with two other roles
Directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins
Julius Caesar will be staged at Shakespeare’s Globe’s Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from 6 November 2026 to 14 February 2027. It is the first time the play has been performed in that theatre.
Joe Hill-Gibbins returns to direct a company of just four actors. Kate Duchêne takes the title role and also plays the Soothsayer and Octavius Caesar. Caoilfhionn Dunne plays Brutus, with Adam Gillen as Mark Antony. Natey Jones completes the company as Cassius.
The Globe describes the play as a brutal and timely story. It follows a group of friends pulled into betrayal and political violence.
Hill-Gibbins said he was “so excited” to bring the story to Wanamaker audiences this winter with “a company of four incredible actors”. Staging an old play for a modern audience, he said, “creates a kind of time machine”, bringing the past into the present and letting the present live in the past. He called the Wanamaker atmospheric and intimate. He said he was looking forward to the spirits of Caesar, Mark Antony, Cassius and Brutus taking over the theatre.
