Hammersmith Road cycleway to become permanent after council backs TfL’s £20m plan
Cabinet voted unanimously for the C9 scheme, which adds three floating bus stops. A resident had urged councillors to reject it over safety.
From Monday 5 October the 11.40pm from Victoria will terminate at East Croydon and the 12.01am from London Bridge at Norwood Junction, with buses covering the rest of the trip.
Two of Southern’s last trains of the night will stop short of Sutton and Selhurst this week while engineering work takes place in the Selhurst area. The changes begin on Monday 5 October, and replacement buses will cover the final part of each journey.
For four nights, from Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October, the train that leaves London Victoria at 11.40pm for Sutton will be sent on a different route once it is past Selhurst. Its last stop will be East Croydon, so it will not get as far as Sutton on those nights.
Anyone travelling further can change at East Croydon onto a rail replacement bus. The bus heads through West Croydon on its way to Sutton and stops at each station in between, so nobody on the usual route is left without a connection.
A second late service is affected from Tuesday 6 to Friday 9 October. The train that departs London Bridge at 12.01am, which would normally run through to Selhurst, will be diverted after leaving Tulse Hill and will terminate at Norwood Junction instead.
On those nights a replacement bus links Tulse Hill with Selhurst, travelling by way of Streatham Common. Like the Sutton bus, it serves every station along its route.
Only these two trains are affected, and both run late at night through Croydon and the surrounding area. Passengers who depend on either one to get home are advised to check their journey before they set off and to allow extra time for the bus leg, which is likely to take longer than the train would have.
