Cabinet voted unanimously for the C9 scheme, which adds three floating bus stops. A resident had urged councillors to reject it over safety.
Windsor and Woking via Staines trains will end at Hounslow, and there are no Waterloo to Alton trains, with replacement buses covering the gaps.
South Western Railway is shutting lines in three areas for engineering work on Sunday 27 September. Trains from London Waterloo on the Reading and Windsor lines are affected, as are services heading for Woking and Alton. Journeys to the south coast are hit too. Some trains will be diverted or cut short, and buses will replace others.
The tracks around Staines are closed for maintenance for the whole day. Between Clapham Junction and Virginia Water, Reading trains from Waterloo take a different route. That gives them extra stops at Wimbledon and Surbiton. Beyond there, Weybridge is added to their calls, and they stop at Addlestone and Chertsey as well.
Windsor trains leave their usual route after Twickenham and finish at Hounslow. Waterloo to Woking trains that normally run through Staines will also terminate there, as will Waterloo to Kingston services via Hounslow. Extra trains run between Waterloo and Hounslow by way of Twickenham.
From Hounslow, replacement buses run through Staines to Virginia Water. Separate bus routes link Hounslow with Windsor and with Woking, also via Staines.
Lines near Eastleigh are shut all day as well. Weymouth trains will leave Waterloo earlier than normal and are diverted between Woking and Southampton Central, making extra calls at Guildford, Havant and Fareham. Poole services start at Southampton Central, and more trains than usual run between Waterloo and Winchester.
Portsmouth trains via Eastleigh terminate at Winchester and make an extra stop at Farnborough. Buses link Winchester and Fareham via Eastleigh, and a revised train service runs from Fareham to Portsmouth. Replacement buses also run from Winchester to Southampton Central via Southampton Airport Parkway, with further buses on that corridor stopping at Shawford and Eastleigh too.
Salisbury to Romsey trains end at Southampton Central, where buses take passengers on to Romsey via Eastleigh. CrossCountry trains are affected as well.
There will be no trains between Waterloo and Alton, because the line near Aldershot is shut all day. SWR’s advice for anyone starting at Waterloo is to catch a Basingstoke stopping train and change at Farnborough. From there a bus goes on to Alton through Aldershot, with a stop in Bentley village. Trains between Ascot and Guildford that run via Aldershot are cancelled too, and buses replace them.
SWR is asking passengers to check their journey before setting out and to allow extra time if a bus is part of the trip.
All day on Sunday 27 September, around Staines and Eastleigh and near Aldershot.
Windsor trains run from Waterloo via Twickenham and end at Hounslow, where replacement buses run to Windsor via Staines.
No. SWR advises taking a Basingstoke stopping train from Waterloo to Farnborough, then a replacement bus to Alton via Aldershot.
