On Monday night a fire damaged the roof of a children’s nursery on Isledon Road in Islington. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were sent to the blaze.
London Fire Brigade said the nursery is in a two-floor building and that the fire damaged the roof. The brigade said there were no reports of injuries.
The call came in at about 10.30pm. Crews came from the Islington, Stoke Newington and Hornsey fire stations, with support from other stations in the area. Firefighters worked through the night, and by about 3am they had contained the blaze.
Traffic was heavier than usual on the A503 Seven Sisters Road. Southbound drivers were held up between the A105 Green Lanes and Finsbury Park station.
Part of the one-way system was closed early in the incident. This was the stretch that takes traffic away from Finsbury Park towards Holloway. It reopened at 7.10am on Tuesday.
Fire investigators from the brigade have looked at the incident but have not found what started it. The cause has been recorded as undetermined.
London Fire Brigade said no injuries had been reported so far. It has not said when the nursery building could be used again, and it has given no details of the roof damage beyond its statement.
