The singer behind American Pie, who is 80, has lined up eight dates under the name The Farewell Tour. It opens at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on 11 May 2027 and closes in London, with Belfast, Dublin, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Gateshead also on the list.
Seats for the London concert will be released at 10am on Friday 2 October 2026. Tickets for the seven shows outside London went on sale earlier, at 10am on Friday 18 September.
Each night will range across his whole career. Older favourites like And I Love You So will share the bill with Castles In The Air and with material from American Boys, the 22nd studio album he put out in May 2024.
The Royal Albert Hall date falls 55 years after McLean first performed on its stage in 1972. He said the hall “was the first room that ever felt like it belonged to me” and that it was fitting for it to be his last. He also credited audiences with keeping him going for 55 years and giving him a career that would not have been possible anywhere else.
McLean, who comes from New Rochelle in New York, has a personal link to every city on the tour. Glasgow opens the run because his family name comes from Scotland: his father and grandfather were both called Donald McLean, and he first headlined in the city at The Apollo in 1973. His first British television special was made at Pebble Mill in Birmingham, and a film of his 1991 show at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall went missing for 20 years before its eventual release as Live In Manchester.
