  • Tours on Wednesday to Sunday evenings, each lasting 75 minutes
  • Route takes in the Library after hours, The Pit and the Library Stack Rooms

The Barbican is running ghost tours of its arts centre for the first time, on Wednesday to Sunday evenings from 1 October to 13 December.

The new tours build on the centre’s existing architecture tours. Guides cover close to 2,000 years of the site’s past, from tales of Roman ruins and plague pits to ghost stories told by the people who work there.

What the Barbican ghost tour covers

Each tour lasts 75 minutes and follows the highwalks and the corridors below ground. Stops include the Library once it has closed for the day and The Pit, the underground theatre at the lowest point of the Barbican Centre.

The route finishes in the Library Stack Rooms, which are normally shut to the public. They hold hundreds of books, some from as early as the 18th century, and the rooms have such a reputation for being haunted that some staff will not go in on their own.

Barbican ghost tour tickets

Tickets for children aged 16 and under cost £19.50. Places can be booked on the Barbican’s website.
