Voters in Myatt’s Fields, Lambeth, go to the polls in a by-election on Thursday 8 October 2026, with six candidates on the ballot.
Sonia Winifred is the Green Party candidate. A former librarian, she was a Labour councillor for Knight’s Hill and held the equalities and culture brief in Lambeth’s cabinet. She switched to the Greens after a suspension that followed her refusal to vote against a Gaza ceasefire motion.
Molly Hartill stands for Labour and Co-operative. She contested Myatt’s Fields in May and finished fourth with 1,108 votes. She is Head of Office for Jim Dickson, the MP for Dartford, who was a Lambeth Labour councillor for Herne Hill for many years.
Chris French, a local resident, is the Liberal Democrat candidate. He stood in Oval in May and has previously been a parliamentary candidate in Vauxhall.
John Hindson represents the Conservative and Unionist Party and Yemi Awolola stands for the Christian Peoples Alliance.
Anya Krycek is the Socialist Party of Great Britain’s candidate. The party also fielded her in July, when Clapham Park held a by-election. It says the aim is to put the case for socialism rather than to win office.
Her election statement argues that neither Labour nor the Greens can undo cuts, because the party sees austerity as something capitalism forces on councils rather than a choice. The statement says a pledge to reverse austerity helped the Greens take control of Lambeth council in May, and that Labour opposed cuts in opposition but made them while it ran the council.
Krycek is holding drop-in sessions every Tuesday and Thursday until polling day at the party’s headquarters, 52 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UN.
